Privacy Policy — Sound Meter

Last updated: 13 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Sound Meter Android app ("the app", "we") handles information. By using the app you agree to this policy.

1. The microphone — we never record audio

Sound Meter uses your device microphone for one purpose only: to measure the ambient sound level (loudness) in real time and show it to you as a decibel number. The audio signal is processed on your device, in memory, in the moment. We do not record it, we do not save it to a file, and we do not upload or transmit it anywhere. Nothing you measure ever leaves your phone.

Microphone access is used only to estimate ambient sound level. Audio is processed locally on your device in real time. We do not store, transmit, upload, or share audio recordings.

2. We do not collect personal data

The app has no account, no sign-up, and no login. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, or location. Your settings (theme, calibration offset) are stored only on your device.

3. Advertising — none in this version

This version of Sound Meter shows no ads and includes no active advertising SDK data collection. The app collects no personal data at all.

If a future update introduces advertising (Google AdMob), this policy will be updated first, with full disclosure of the data involved, and (for users in the EEA/UK) a consent request will be shown before any ads are served.

4. Permissions we request

You can revoke the microphone permission at any time in your device Settings. Without it, the app cannot measure sound.

5. Children

The app is rated for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. This version shows no advertising.

6. Data security & retention

Because we don't collect or store your data on any server, there is nothing for us to breach, sell, or retain. On-device settings remain until you clear the app's data or uninstall.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.

Sound Meter is a measurement aid. Phone microphones are not laboratory instruments; readings are estimates and should not be relied upon for professional, medical, or legal purposes.
